7 Tips to Make Your Child’s First Overnight Experience Worry Free

Are you ready to entrust your child to another family overnight? Well, that is what exactly you are doing if you say yes to his overnight invitation over a friend’s house. Question is, are both of you ready?

The first overnight experience is very exciting for your child, but it can be very scary for you. But you don’t have to worry about anything especially if you personally know the parents of your child’s friend. You can apply some of these guidelines to ensure that your child will have a pleasant stay at his friend’s house.

  1. Get to know the parents. Ask them if your child needs to bring aair mattress beds, pillow and blanket. You can make sure that your child will have a comfortable night if you are sure that there is enough bed for the kids to sleep on.
  2. Pack your child’s things with him.  It is better if your child is there to help you pack his things. This is a good opportunity to teach your child the right way to pack. He will also familiarize where you placed his things. This way, he will be able to locate the things he needs without unpacking the rest of his belongings.
  3. If your child is bringing a Portable Kids Bed, show him how to use it. If it is too complicated for him to handle, let the parents of his friends know how. If he has a special pillow or stuff toy that lets him sleep more comfortably, pack it as well.
  4. If there are important things that the other parents should know about your child, tell them. Such things as food allergies or medication your child is taking. It is advisable to provide them with a written instruction for special medications.
  5. If you don’t have classic air beds, make sure your child has a sleeping bag. Check if it is comfortable so that your child can sleep well after staying up late at night.
  6. Don’t forget to give your phone number and other emergency lines. Make sure that your child knows it as well.
  7. And remind your child to behave, this does not mean that your child should just sit all night. Allow him to have fun without going overboard.

Your child’s first taste of independence is his first overnight invitation. There are a lot of things you have to prepare aside from the air beds. You have to make sure that he has his pajamas, toothbrush, clean underwear and good clothes for the following day.

First times are always nerve racking but don’t worry too much. Just make sure that you can trust the other parents with your child. In most cases, they are but it is still better to get to know them.
